How will Kinavet-CA1® affect my dog?
Kinavet-CA1® helps to shrink your dog’s tumor. Like other cancer treatments, it can be difficult to predict whether your dog’s tumor will respond to treatment and if it does respond how long it will remain responsive to Kinavet-CA1®. Regular checkups by your veterinarian are necessary to determine if your dog is responding as expected, or to decide whether your dog should receive a different daily dose of Kinavet-CA1®.
What is Kinavet-CA1®?
Kinavet-CA1®, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is a drug used to treat mast cell tumors, a common form of cancer that affects dogs. Kinavet-CA1® works in three ways:

By blocking the survival signal of the tumor cells, which may induce disappearance of the tumor

By preventing tumor growth.

By preventing the spread of tumor cells (metastasis).
How has Kinavet-CA1® been studied?
A number of large studies have been conducted with Kinavet-CA1® in Europe and in the USA. The main study that lead to approval of Kinavet-CA1® included dogs of various breeds and both sexes with mast cell tumors that had come back after surgery or could not be removed with surgery. Studies in other conditions have also been conducted and are still being performed (including atopy in dogs, feline asthma and other cancers).
Is Kinavet-CA1® an experimental drug?
No. For the treatment of canine mast cell tumor Kinavet-CA1® is a new and innovative treatment, but not an experimental drug. Kinavet-CA1® is approved for sale in the United States (2010) and also in Europe (2008). However, studies are also investigating the use of Kinavet-CA1® in addition to traditional chemotherapy treatment and also for effectiveness in other tumor types.
Are there any withdrawal symptoms?
No. Due to how Kinavet-CA1® works there are no withdrawal symptoms. Stopping Kinavet-CA1® treatment effectively ends its influence on the body.
