What are possible side effects of Kinavet-CA1®?
The most common side effects that may occur with Kinavet-CA1® include diarrhea and vomiting. Kinavet-CA1® also showed a risk of reversible protein loss syndrome, which is not dangerous for your animal if regular surveillance of blood albumin level is performed by your veterinarian to ensure that treatment is interrupted before any symptoms occur. Kinavet-CA1® was associated with life-threatening or fatal hypoalbuminemia an anemia in field studies and the 39-week safety study. The studies provide evidence that severe adverse reactions may be prevented if dogs are monitored for hypoalbumenemia every 2 weeks and for anemia every 4 weeks, and treatment is discontinued if hypoalbuminemia, protenuria or anemia occur.
Do NOT initiate Kinavet-CA1® tablet treatment in dogs with: hypoalbuminemia, proteinuria, azotemia, anemia, neutropenia or hyperbilirubinemia.
The safe use of Kinavet-CA1® tablets has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 2 years of ago and cannot be safely dosed in dogs weighing less than 7kg (15.4lbs).
What should I do if side effects occur in my dog during Kinavet-CA1® treatment?
If you notice any serious effects or effects not mentioned here, please inform your veterinarian immediately. In case
of adverse reactions, your veterinarian may decide to reduce the dose, interrupt treatment, or to discontinue treatment.
Can my dog breed while taking Kinavet-CA1®?
Do NOT use in dogs that are pregnant, lactating or intended for breeding. Kinavet-CA1®caused impaired fertility, fetal resorptions and abnormal development (delayed ossification) in rats.
What do I need to tell my veterinarian about my dog before administering Kinavet-CA1®?
Tell your veterinarian about all other medications your pet took or is taking, including: prescription drugs; over the counter drugs; heartworm, flea & tick medications; vitamins and supplements, including herbal medications.
Can my dog be treated for other conditions while taking Kinavet-CA1®?
Yes, but caution is advised with the concurrent use of Kinavet-CA1® and other substances because drug interactions may affect the rate at which certain drugs are metabolized, resulting in adverse effects or reduced effectiveness. Your veterinarian can best advise you on this.
What if Kinavet-CA1® is accidentally ingested?
Kinavet-CA1® is not for use in humans. If Kinavet-CA1® is ingested by you or members of your household seek medical advice immediately. It is important to show the treating physician a copy of the package insert or label. In cases of accidental human ingestion of Kinavet-CA1®, you may experience gastrointestinal discomfort, including vomiting or diarrhea. To avoid exposure to drug, wash hands with soap and water after administering.
How should I handle Kinavet-CA1®?
NOT FOR USE IN HUMANS. KEEP THIS AND ALL MEDICATIONS OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. Children should not come into contact with Kinavet-CA1®. Keep children away from feces, urine, or vomit of treated dogs.
To avoid exposure to drug, wash hands with soap and water after administering Kinavet-CA1® and wear protective gloves to prevent contact with feces, urine, vomit, and broken or crushed Kinavet-CA1® tablets. Place all waste material in a plastic bag and seal before general disposal. If eyes are accidentally exposed to the drug, rinse eyes with water immediately. In case of accidental ingestion by a person, seek medical advice immediately, show the package insert or label to the physician.
Pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, or nursing mothers should pay special attention to these handling precautions (see handling instructions above). Kinavet-CA1® may harm an unborn baby (cause birth defects). For pregnant and nursing women, accidental ingestion of Kinavet-CA1® may have adverse effects on pregnancy or the nursing baby.
